The Chicherin House-Museum

The Chicherin Museum-House was a distinguished diplomat and talented statesman, which opened not long ago in 1987. The building, which occupies the museum, is an old wooden country house belonging to the Chicherin family. There are only 9 rooms, around several outbuildings, but the overall impression of a miniature house is very pleasant and welcoming. It is located in Tambov.

The house is a small one where the noble Chicherin family lived from 1877 to 1886. In it are hidden approximately 3300 artifacts, including furniture, books and other personal objects. Of course, the first exhibition of the museum is interesting for those who have heard about the extraordinary personality of Chicherin, an outstanding historian, famous journalist, musician and musicologist. However, the rest of the people should also visit the house. It has very decent furniture, with a very well designed collection and subtly, when visited, it conveys an atmosphere of the 19th century.

It is located at the corner of Soviet Union (ex. Grande) and Kronstadt (ex. Intercession). This house, despite being a single-storey building, surprisingly simulates an elegant stone architecture from the first half of the 19th century. This house-museum is itself a landmark of Tambov.

It was in this building that Georgiya Vasilevicha Chicherina, the famous Russian diplomat, spent his childhood years (from 1877 to 1886). In this place, between the 70’s and 80’s of the 19th century he was often visited by his uncle Boris Nikolaevich Chicherin, a scientist and public man. In the house there are exhibitions of original photographs, letters, documents, and of course the pearl of the collection. This place makes people happy, especially the interior. Be sure to visit all parts of the house, including the attic, where George, Nicholas and Sophia’s nurseries once existed.

One thing you should not overlook, and it is one of the best things, is that the Chicherin House-Museum has a children’s theatre tour known as “Visiting Jura Chicherina”, which is especially for children so it is also a place for the little ones.

There are special tours, with evenings of classical music and banquets.
