The fame of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve has spread far beyond the city, region or even the country. Its exhibition is absolutely brilliant and informative, and this is thanks to Vladimir. It is a centre for national and international tourism. It is not by chance, since it is not only one of the first museums or reservations, which appeared in Russia. It is a huge complex on the territory, where 56 architectural monuments of Vladimir and its suburbs, such as Suzdal, Kidekshi and Gus-Khrustalny, are gathered under its premises. Every year its museums are visited by more than 1.2 million people. They have monuments of the 12th-13th century architecture, such as the Golden Gate, the Cathedral of the Assumption, and numerous churches that have long been a symbol of the glorious city of Vladimir. In the Museum-Reserve, all the objects, especially the most valuable of the cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia, and the ensembles of the Monastery of St. Euthymius and Suzdal Kremlinen, are officially registered, in the list of the cultural heritage of mankind by UNESCO.
The museum’s exhibitions, such as the “House” complex is a three-storey building on its former official site, built between 1785 and 1790. Under the same roof there are 6 different wings, the exhibition hall, the art galleries, and even a museum center for children. Here, there are fine arts, as well as icons, costumes and toys. The exhibition is so versatile that it will certainly interest all visitors.
In the original building of the former water tower, there is an exhibition of “Old Vladimir”, dedicated to the everyday life of the city in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
After touring the exhibitions, all visitors can have a panoramic view on a platform that is open on the fourth level.
It is worth mentioning that the military and historical exhibition is located in the Golden Gate building. There you will have information about weapons and uniforms of different periods and you can also see the main exhibition of pride, which is a diorama known as “The Decisive Assault of Vladimir” made by Batu Kan on February 7, 1238.
The museum contains many priceless, historical objects and amazing antiques. The famous “Sungirskaya horse” and a white stone cross stand out impressively, making it a monument of older letters from the 12th century.
The museum exhibits crystalline, miniature embroidery and lacquer works that speak for themselves and the samples of these works are made by local craftsmen. Finally, the Stoletovs House-Museum tells the story of two brothers; Vladimir, a native with a talent for the land and the nature of life, as well as Vladimir’s life with the merchant family in the 19th century. The exhibition is currently housed in a single-storey wooden house.
